What is Kratom?

Kratom is a tropical tree (Mitragyna speciosa) native to Southeast Asia. Both coffea, the coffee plant, and mitragyna speciosa, the kratom plant, are members of the same family of flowering plants, Rubiaceae. Kratom and coffee have similarities, but they also have their differences.

People consume kratom in either powder form, capsule form, as an extract, or brewed as a tea. Traditionally, people would chew on the leaves – but these days, the most common form is brewed as a tea. Sometimes consumed by itself, or with honey, agave, flavor, or sweetener.

What are the effects of kratom?

There are different strains of kratom and each has its own distinct effects. While all strains have a mood enhancing effect, different types are preferred by different people. The main types of kratom are red, green, white and yellow.

Red – known for relaxing and pain relief effects

White – known for its energizing and stimulating qualities

Green – the most common, energizing and pain relief qualities (like a mix of red and white)

Yellow – white kratom made with a different drying technique. Known for a combination of pain relief, energy, concentration and better mood.

Kratom on its own does not contain any form of caffeine – and the kratom we serve is thoroughly tested and additive-free. It does not contain caffeine.

How long do the effects last?

Most people experience the benefits of kratom for 2-3 hours, but of course, like coffee or anything else – this depends on how much you consume.

Anyone who is pregnant, using SSRIs or any medication that affects serotonin/dopamine levels should not consume kratom (and are usually advised to not consume kava, as well).
